Small Business Marketing Tips: Is Your Website Up-to-Date?

Updated: Apr 25

If not, you could be losing business.

I recently spoke with a client who wanted to create a “company page” on LinkedIn and start promoting their new business to their connections.

We talked about several ideas and discussed what could be done, but what she really needed to do, was review her company’s website first, and get it up-to-date prior to starting any social media campaigns.

Is your Website up-to-date?

If you have a website, consider that 92% of first time visitors to your site aren’t ready to buy from you. That means you need to do everything you can to make a great first impression. If your website is outdated, you’re likely missing out on potential business.

The reality is, when your website looks dated or performs poorly, potential customers form their perception of your company in a matter of seconds. The last thing you want them to think is that your company is out of touch, or maybe even out of business.

Your website needs to be modern looking with a responsive design. Otherwise, any marketing strategies you put in place, including Pay Per Click (PPC) or online advertising, won’t hit the mark. In short, you can’t afford for your website to be outdated.

Ask yourself these six questions. They can help you to identify opportunities for potential improvements to one of your brand’s greatest assets – your website.

1. Is your website mobile friendly?

2. How well does your website engage visitors?

3. Is your website easy to use?

4. Is your website’s performance up to speed?

5. Is your website secure?

6. When did you last update your website design?*

One nit picky note here. If I see a Website footer with a copyright date that is not the current year, it tells me that you haven’t touched your site since the previous year or even longer, and makes me wonder if you pay any attention to your website and are in business.

Don't let customers pass you by. Now's a good time to review your website and make sure that it is up-to-date and ready for business.
